Facilities: the Ornano stadium is transformed!

Norman, the mascot for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy, has received the keys to the d’Ornano stadium from Viking, the mascot for the Malherbe Caen stadium. The transformation from a football stadium to an open-air equestrian arena began on Monday 19 May with the protective covering of the pitch and the assembly of the equestrian flooring. Everything has to be ready for the preliminary events, which will be held from 23 to 26 June 2014. With a view to competing in the Games’ fortnight, the first horses will arrive on 21 August for Dressage, followed by the horses for Showjumping on 30 August. The dismantling of the main pitch will be completed in 48 hours from 7 to 9 September, so as to return the keys to the SM Caen for their league 1 season! The facilities on the other sites around Caen will begin in June.

Meeting to remember: Thursday 22 May, press reception from 3 pm to 4 pm at the d’Ornano stadium. Prior registration is compulsory via the press office – Meet at Parking P2 car park

Volunteers: their appointment prior to the major gathering on 28 June

Over 4,000 personal interviews have been carried out in Normandy, in Paris or via phone since November 2013. The 3,000 selected volunteers are currently being allocated roles in hundreds of different posts. They’ll receive confirmation of their participation prior to 31 May via email and on the volunteers’ portal. For the lucky candidates who are successful, their mission and timetable will also be listed.
Meeting to remember: A major gathering is scheduled for Saturday 28 June with all the volunteers in the d’Ornano Stadium.

Sport: Test Events from 23 to 26 June

From 23 to 26 June, the Normandy 2014 Organising Committee will be arranging international Dressage and Showjumping events, which will serve as preliminary competitions in the d’Ornano stadium enclosure. As was the case during the preliminary event of 2013 (which included Eventing, Endurance and Driving), these events are not a rehearsal for the main event but rather a simulation enabling the Organising Committee to fine-tune its plans. These competitions will also enable the national federations to discover the d’Ornano stadium site in its equestrian configuration for the first time and enter into discussion with the teams that make up the Organising Committee, so as to hone preparations for the final weeks.
A comprehensive presentation of the events will be performed in early June.

Meetings to remember:
23 and 24 June, Dressage CDI3*
25 and 26 June, Showjumping CSI2*

And also…

Around the World in 80 Horses: a set of new stories about Man and Horse told by Jean-Louis Gouraud and illustrated with pictures on 2 new panels, soon to appear in Ouistreham and at Mont-Saint-Michel.
