Kentucky Horsewear’s principal Thomas Tuytens (himself a rider and competitor) was engaged in his family’s business - Concordia Textiles in Belgium, when he identified equestrian applications for the high performance, technical fabrics that have revolutionalised many work-wear applications that are now widely used in the military and health care.

Thomas was frustrated that equestrian equipment manufacturers had not embraced the technological advancements that would greatly improve care and protection for horses.

In 2007, Thomas moved from Europe to open a new plant in Suzhou (China) and this experience inspired him to think “outside the square” and look for better ways of preventing impact injuries in horses.   Thomas saw the benefits that modern technologies could offer the professional rider/trainer … and Kentucky Horsewear was born, introducing the inaugural range of leg protection products, which have taken equine care to a new level.

The pad’s shape is unique to Kentucky Horsewear and the ultra thin synthetic leather protects the horse’s withers and prevents slipping or displacement of the saddle, which could result in increased pressure, discomfort or chafing.  The patented, shock-absorbing inner foam maintains its shape, resilience and density, whilst staying soft and flexible.


The Half Pad Absorb gives close contact between the rider and horse for optimum comfort, which helps to reduce fatigue and the onset of muscle soreness. 

The pad is anti-slip, quick to dry, breathable and the synthetic leather binding and piping is hardwearing and supple - making it easy to clean and maintain.
