“The event is a real crowd pleaser and unites Queensland’s regional dressage clubs who make the event a major annual social occasion.   The clubs’ top Novice level combinations match skills with other participating clubs in the hope of taking out the Saddleworld Novice Club Team Challenge.  The prize is a new saddle which can be put towards the winning club’s fund raising efforts.
”
The Brisbane CDI has an interesting history and the early years presented many logistical challenges due to the lack of an appropriate sized indoor venue that could cater for the competition and hospitality requirements.

The inaugural event was the “brain-child” of a dedicated group of Queensland Dressage enthusiasts who banded together to bring an FEI qualifying event along with Young Dressage Horse classes to Queensland.  The competition took place at Pine Lodge in Thornlands.

The number of entries received for 2002 prompted a change of format and the Young Horse qualifying rounds took place at an outdoor venue a few kilometres away, with the final rounds and FEI classes decided at Pine Lodge in the indoor arena. This format gave the Organising Committee a greatly increased workload, which was deemed unworkable, and the event was put on hold.

Queensland held CDI’s in 2005 at Nambour and again in 2007 at Toowoomba.
In 2012, the Brisbane CDI was reinstated and took place at the spectacular new State Equestrian Centre at Caboolture.  The purpose built facilities have given scope for this event to become one of the most important highlights on the Australian Dressage calendar.
